Tube hydroforming was developed by Electropneumatics way back in 2000 through in-house R&D using high-pressure hydraulic, metal forming and control logic expertise that we have. The technology has picked up very well in the automotive industry and shows promise in many other industries like sanitation, process and food, etc. The main advantage is the ability to produce parts with a good strength-to-weight ratio enabling weight saving.
Ensuring hole position accuracy in conventional hole making operations is a challenge. With Hydropiercing, the holes are pierced during the hydroforming stroke ensuring consistent positional accuracy. Special piercing cylinders are incorporated in the hydroforming die itself. Electropneumatics is using Hydropiercing to make round and elliptical holes in vehicle trailing arms and load beams.
